Happy New
Year!
A fun filled
Scouting 2006 to all Explorers & `Rents from all the Leader Team
Next meeting is Disco Night on Mon 2nd January
7.30
Our
first meeting of 2006 is a holiday-party-mood Karaoke and Disco evening in the Explorers
HQ at Paddicks Patch Campsite. We will kick off the fun and frolics at 7.30pm,
finishing at 10pm, so don`t miss out! As a special surprise Tom will be
dropping in to demo some Michael
Jackson dance routines. Whether you call him "King of Pop", or
like the media, "Wacko Jacko", there is no argument that his dance
style was influential. Tom is also offering to run a full `Michael Jackson
Dance tuition evening` later in the term, if there is sufficient interest.
How`s your Moonwalk?
Don`t
forget to wear Uniform on Monday, but do bring your party and dance gear as
well, and don`t forget to bring money to buy your new Explorer Leisure shirt
from Hazel or one of the Team if you want one.
Diary Check Time! Synchronise your diary with ours!
Pull
up your current Scout Diary and
checkout the Explorer Program for Spring Term 2006. Don`t complain if you
miss out. No excuses you didn`t know the events and activities were on, because
they are all here.
We have some really great activities lined up, including free-fall sky-diving,
skiing, a sniper evening, live chav hunting and lots of camping &
expeditions!

Twyford Christmas Carol Concert Thu 22nd Dec
Many thanks
to Albert and Dobbo for cycling over to Twyford and representing the Explorer
Unit at the annual 1st
Twyford Annual Christmas Carol Concert. This concert usually raises over ₤100
for charity and consisted of carols for the congregation supplemented by songs,
recitals and readings from the various sections of the 1st Twyford Scout Group,
together with the local Guides and Brownies.
Explorer
Snowflake Ball Mon 19th December: Photos now available.
A tremendous evening of fun, with the Explorers surpassing
themselves and the Leaders expectations. Dinner Jackets (DJs) full Penguin
suits and bow-ties in abundance with the fellahs, and gorgeous ball gowns,
cocktail dresses on extremely pretty ladies.
The whole evening went without a hitch, the Chilli was kool,
(hot actually!) the pizza sliced and the snacks scrummy. No one misbehaved or
got into trouble, and a great time was had by all. Mark gave a quick thank-you
speech on behalf of the Leader team for all the great Scouting we have enjoyed
in 2005, and Dan gave a vote of thanks with three cheers from the Explorers.
Many thanks from Colin & Mark to the valiant few (Dan,
Elizabeth, Albert, Dobbo and others) who stayed over Friday through Tuesday to
erect and guard the tents, and then finally take them all down again on Tuesday.
Many thanks!
Colin`s 50th
Birthday Thrash Sat 17th Dec
Many thanks to everyone who came along to my Birthday thrash.
I don`t think anyone was disappointed, including me. The beers were fine, the
food was excellent, the disco brilliant, and the Explorers outstanding. I shall
never forget the Explorer rendition of Queen`s Bohemian Rhapsody complete with
Karaoke, dance routine and full actions from the roofs of our two storage Pods.
Special thanks to Carolyn, Claire and Helen for all their work on the catering,
and of course huge thanks as always to Mr Ever-Ready Albert who helped stage
manage the whole event for me. I won`t mention all the things that Dan got up
to, because he asked me not to mention it here. You will have to ask him
yourself, but I believe there are also photos and video evidence available if
he tries to deny any of it!

World Scout Jamboree
(July 27th to Aug 8th 2007) UK CST 2007
We are now looking
towards the 21st World Scout Jamboree (July 27th to Aug 8th)
to be held in Scouting's centenary year. We hope the UK Contingent will be made
up of around 4,500 Unit members and Leaders and another 2,000+ International
Service Team members! To support this massive Contingent, we need to recruit a
number of highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to the Contingent
Support Team (CST).
Members of the CST will
be expected to attend a number of training weekends and take an active part in
Unit Leader weekends and other major events. They will also support local
Jamboree Units during their preparation and training
events. Being a member
of the CST is a demanding but rewarding role, and you can find out more by
looking at the information sheet, role description, person specification and
application form on our webpage ww.ukcontingent.org.uk.
The closing date for
applications is 31 December, 2005. Don't forget that people that are not yet 18
can apply too - as long as they're 18 by the time of the Jamboree, and there is
no upper age limit. Being a member of the CST is a demanding but rewarding role,
and you can find out more by looking at the information sheet, role
description, person specification and application form on our webpage
www.ukcontingent.org.uk.
The Berkshire Scouts
Unit for the World Scout Jamboree in 2007 will be led by Bruce Clark, District
Commission for Slough. Forming the Jamboree Team with Bruce are Wendy Allum
(Windsor and Eton), Alex Clarke (Maidenhead), Andrew Ellis (Pang Valley), Roger
Hay (Slough), Gary Maunders (Slough), Laura O`Neil (Slough) and Peter Swynford
(Taceham Hundred). This group of Leaders will now be working together to promote
the Jamboree to the young people, with the selection of the young people taking
place in early Spring. Watch out for the application forms, available from
early January. The Berkshire
Scouts Jamboree Website will have all the information as it happens.

1st Twyford Christmas Carol Concert
Thu 22nd Dec, 7pm to 8.15pm
All Explorers and
leaders are invited to the popular 1st
Twyford Annual Christmas Carol Concert, another 1st Twyford institution,
which will be held this year on Thursday 22nd December at St
Mary's Church, (Twyford) 7 pm until 8.15pm.
This concert usually
raises over ₤100 for charity and consists of carols for the congregation
supplemented by songs, recitals and readings from the various sections of the
1st Twyford Scout Group, together with the local Guides and Brownies. This is
not a formal or well-rehearsed concert but the atmosphere is always good, with
the church full of people and lots of Christmas spirit. Uniform should be worn
by all Scouts present as this is a public as well as a family occasion. A warm welcome
is always extended to all Scouts, their families, friends.
All Explorers and
leaders are encouraged to attend and indeed see some of our Explorers are doing
a `turn`.

News! Wednesday 7th Dec 2005 Scout Diary
Next week (Monday 12th
December)
Social Evening, Paddicks
Patch, 7.30
Just a quiet social
evening this week, maybe a bonfire. The leaders would appreciate some help with
maintenance projects and tidying up, but feel free to just come along and chill
out if you want.
Open Air Skating at
Windsor last week
We managed to book the 1st
Woodley Minibus, leave Paddicks at 7pm, arrive at Windsor 5 minutes before Ice
Time, collect all the pre-ordered tickets, have a great evening skating and get
home on time without apparently anything going wrong! It was so `on message and
to plan` that the leaders wondered what could possibly have happened!
Still mustn`t knock it!
It was a great evening out, everyone had great fun on the ice and in the
Minibus!
Camp Mohawk Week-End
Christmas Spectacular Sat 10th & Sun 11th Dec
We need a number of
volunteers in uniform to assist at Camp Mohawk, Crazies Hill, Wargrave. Map
here.
Their basic need is for Car
Parking, to prevent vehicles parking on a neighbouring farm or obstructing farm
access.
Reward will be in food
and snacks, plus having helped a large number of very disabled children have a
great Christmas Camp, with BBQ, Face Painting, Santa`s Grotto, Camp Fire, and
many other activities. The primary aim of Camp Mohawk is to provide day
facilities for children with Autism, to those families who most need a break.

Trust, Highfield Lane,Crazies Hill,Wargrave,RG10 8PU
Campsite: 0118 940 4045
or Email. Our Leader Contact is
on 01628 783107
Please aim to be there
to help from: Sat 9.30 to 4pm. Sun 10 to 4pm
The staff on-site will
welcome you and assign you a role where-ever they need help and you can fit in.
Please try and spare an
hour or three to assist in this very worthwhile project. Parents of course,
also very welcome!
Mark will be visiting on
the Sunday, Colin will give lifts on the Saturday if asked.
Woodley Town Council
Grant of ₤250
We are the proud
beneficiaries of a ₤250 grant from Woodley Town Council to help with the
cost of our two Storage Pods at Paddicks Patch. We have been asked to come to
the Full Town Council Meeting on Tuesday 13th Dec at 7.15pm. I would
be grateful if a few fully uniformed Explorers would accompany me to the
ceremony, and officially collect the cheques from the Lady Mayor & the Town
Council and pose for the usual News & Publicity photographs!
Please email or txt me if you would be
prepared to join me. I will of course collect you from home and return you.
Should be all done by 8pm, typically, in case you have plans for the rest of
the evening (apart from homework! ).
Congratulation to ALL
Explorers!
A superb turnout for
both Twyford Christmas Market on Friday and Woodley Winter Extravaganza on
Sunday, well done all who turned out. Many thanks again to Albert for preparing
and displaying some excellent Publicity materials outside our Marquee, which
generated CONSIDERABLE enthusiasm among visitors, so HOPEFULLY we may get EVEN
MORE of your mates along to Explorers to add the the fun and Jolity! Mark did a
nice business in selling Bovril to the adults (most Explorers went Yuk! I
suppose it`s a Marmite Thing, you either love it or hate it!)
And an ESPECIALLY big
`well done` to Stephen, Richard, Emma, Dan, Ben and Amy and others who worked
so hard at preparing Crimble cards (`Winter Holiday` Yuk!), presents, wreaths
of holly and various Xmas stuff for sale.! I look forward to seeing the income
from these profitable activities, which, as promised, will go 100% into your
personal Virtual Accounts for Iceland or what-ever you need to save for.
Lost and Found!
Mark is still looking
for a mislaid small black felt wallet about the size of a
fag box from the back of his van between his Dad`s and unpacking after Stonker. If
you have this item (which for the technical it`s a Lazer Leveling Device),
please email me or Mark and we will arrange to collect it. It probably slipped
into someone`s luggage during the scramble to unpack on Sunday in the dark.
I
have Richards silly woolly hat which he tells me doesn`t fit while he
has his hair up on end in punk style!
I
also have a pair of black woven/wool gloves left behind over the last
couple of trips. (Bruges, I think)
Finally
I have a Nokia mains phone charger left in the cabin I was staying in at
Stonker. (Richard again?)
I`ll
keep them in my car for who-ever owns them to reclaim them.
Stephen has lost his CD
case containing multiple CDs. If anyone has found this in their luggage,
please contact any of the leader team and we will return it to it`s worried
owner.
