Loddon District Explorer Scout Unit
Uniform
Policy:
The Loddon District Explorer Unit Uniform Policy
is quite simple, we believe:
What:
Normal
“On-Site Meeting” Uniform
The official Explorer Scout Shirt or Blouse, the Scout Beige Polo Shirt, or the Loddon Explorer Unit Maroon Polo shirt, with our Loddon District Unit knecker (scarf).
Normal
“Off-Site Meeting” Uniform
Full
“Formal” Uniform
The Explorer Scout beige Shirt or Blouse with our Loddon District Unit knecker (scarf), Explorer Uniform Trousers or skirt and smart polished shoes or clean hiking boots.
Explorer
Scouts not yet invested:
All
Explorer Scouts who have not yet been
invested into the Explorer Unit should wear their current Scout
Uniform, or if new to the Scout Movement, smart casual clothes in all
situations where where invested
explorers are expected to wear either Uniform "style" as defined above.
When:
Weekly
Meetings at Paddicks Patch or at Our Lady of Peace:
All Invested Explorer Scouts should wear
Normal “On-Site Meeting” Uniform for Flag Break and Flag Down ceremonies, and have
activity clothes for the remainder of the meeting.
Off-Site
Meetings or at any time when we are in public view on actvities in the Loddon Area:
All
Invested Explorer Scouts should wear Normal
“Off-Site Meeting” Uniform which includes the uniform
trousers when traveling or assembling in a public place.
Travelling to/from Expeditions & Camps, anytime we are away from Loddon District, Remembrance Day Sunday and St Georges Day
Parades
All Invested Explorer Scouts should wear the Full
“Formal” Uniform, no exceptions.
Camps
& Expeditions:
All
Invested Explorer Scouts should wear Full Formal Uniform while
traveling to and from the Expedition Base Camp in vehicles, in
leisure times while visiting the local town, and when visiting a public
place
such as a museum, swimming pool or other off-camp leisure activity.
Wearing the Explorer Scout Uniform may be totally
inappropriate (and potentially dangerous) when hill-walking, climbing, or when
taking part in any seriously strenuous, wet or dirty activity. When any such
activity is planned or anticipated, Explorers will be expected to dress in the most
appropriate clothing for the activity at the start of day and to travel and
stay in that or similar clothing and not Scout Uniform for the duration of the
activity.
Fundraising:
All Invested Explorer Scouts should wear either
the Uniform shirt, the Loddon Explorer Unit Maroon Polo Shirt or the Scout Beige
Polo Shirt but without the necker while taking part
in physically demanding Fundraising work, such as Marquee erection and site
setup work. However, for on-going all day work such as manning a BBQ, waiting
and clearing tables, car parking and similar less immediately strenuous fundraising
activities, the Scout Necker should be worn because
we are face to face with the public for extended periods of time.
Uniform
In General:
The
Scout Uniform, Necker & Health and Safety
As a general rule, if at any time an
Explorer Scout believes their Scout Uniform and especially the Scout Necker poses a Health & Safety risk it should immediately
be removed/replaced with more appropriate clothing without question. Examples
include working with open fires, operating any form of machinery (where the Necker may get caught), using an axe, knife or saw where
the necker may cause visual or physical distraction. Indeed,
in any circumstance that the Explorer Scout determines that their Uniform or
the Necker poses any sort of risk, that clothing should
always be removed/replaced immediately, at the Explorer Scouts absolute discretion
without question. This rule applies to any item of Uniform that the Explorer
determines is a Health and Safety Risk during any activity, again, absolutely without
question.
