Explorer Unit Council Meeting Minutes

Meeting held at Paddicks Patch, February 26th 2007 commencing 19:30

Mark L outlined the previous Unit Council minutes from 2nd Jan 2007:

General improvement areas around Explorer-led camps:

       Colin intervened encouraging/forcing activities

It has already been agreed that Explorer-led camps should include activities

       Nowhere to record in/out movements

White-board has been installed in the pod for this purpose

The lack of planning for meals has delayed the evening meal times, drastically

Caused as the individuals were unaware of their rota slots

Publish a rota/list and 'sign' individuals off once a 'chore' has been completed

Delays caused by a inadequate food shopping

Mark E highlighted the need to plan meals ahead, considering the activities planned for the weekend.

Other members of the group refusing to help with the clean-up
The need for a washing up rota was highlighted

Mark E suggested the cooks nominate the cleaners

Publish a rota/list and 'sign' individuals off once a 'chore' has been completed

Dan highlighted the conflicting priorities: hut /compound

It was noted that both the hut/compound required attention: allowing more time to clean up would have resolved both issues.

Differing standards in cleaning

Individuals Specialising in cleaning areas, so they know how and to what standards tasks should be completed

A 'tick list' to be displayed in the kitchen highlighting standard tasks that should be completed.

Suggestion of finishing earlier to allow time to clean up the site

Plan ahead and prevent 'stacking' camps and activity too close to each other.

Mark L highlighted the need to look after the equipment we have access to:

       Ariel runway

Still up on Friday morning – all week

The separating of equipment may result in loss or misuse – leading to damage

Explorers have been advised to respect the equipment made available to them, otherwise the equipment shall be withdrawn.

Mark L outlined the current fundraisng procedure, asking for suggestions for improvement,

Suggested to limited places on fundraisng events – to prevent over-staffing events

Greater attention  to be paid to persons attending – to prevent squabbling amongst the ranks

Would like the accounts updated more frequently – to paint a clearer picture of available funds

  Suggestion of more scouting activities

The Explorers indicated interest – during 'fair weather' periods

It was noted a number of 'creative' activities have coincided back-to-back,
leaving a number of 'social evenings' to follow

Mix up the programme to prevent 'bunching' of more exotic activities
